Dennis Bergkamp, Ronald Koeman and Dirk Kuyt are plotting to buy an English football club, according to reports.

The Dutch trio are understood to be hopeful of buying a club in League One or League Two. A previous attempt to take over at Wycombe Wanderers failed in 2019.

Neither of the former players have worked on British soil since Koeman was sacked as Everton manager in 2017. The 60-year-old is currently manager of the Netherlands while Kuyt coaches Antwerp-based side Beerschot.

Super agent Rob Jansen is believed to be involved in the deal and he spoke to Dutch podcast “Keift Janson Egmond Gjip” to confirm their interest. Astonishingly, former Manchester United, Celtic and Barcelona striker Henrik Larsson has already been promised the manager’s job.

Arsenal legend Bergkamp opened up about his desire to buy a team once the Wycombe deal broke down. Speaking to De Telegraaf last year, the 54-year-old revealed his “dream” is to build a club from the ground up with other former players.

"Wycombe Wanderers was a nice project," Bergkamp said. "We were very far along with it. It only fell through at the end. Together with Phillip Cocu, Ronald Koeman, Dirk Kuyt, Henrik Larsson and (agent) Rob Jansen, we were going to buy the shares.

"It is still a dream of mine to develop players, run an academy, and use all our knowledge and experience to get promoted. Not with a foreign billionaire who puts in a lot of money just to go up quickly.

"If you have a group of former top footballers together then you just start lower. I am convinced that with a club in League One, with real football knowledge, you can get promoted to the Championship within five years, 10 years at most."
