European giants 'scouting' Arsenal youngster ahead of potential transfer

A club in Europe are said to have scouted an Arsenal wonderkid multiple times and could make a move for the player

Arsenal youngster Chido Obi-Martin has caught the eye of Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. They have scouted the player 'multiple times' and could line up a move for the 16-year-old.

Romano stresses that Dortmund's scouting network is far-flung and they are 'always tracking talents from around the world', but their interest in Obi-Martin nonetheless remains apparent. As things stand, they have yet to make an approach for Obi-Martin.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, Romano said: "Chido Obi – This Arsenal wonderkid was recently linked with Borussia Dortmund. Of course, BVB are always tracking talents around the world, they know the boy well and they’ve been scouting him multiple times but, but there’s nothing else so far. He’s an important piece of Arsenal’s future and so there’s nothing imminent happening."

Should Arsenal allow Chidi Obi-Martin to leave the club?

Selling highly-rated academy prospects is usually a bad sign in football - especially if they are touted as future first-team players. While it remains to be seen if Obi-Martin will reach this level, letting him move to another top club is unlikely to be a popular move within the Arsenal fanbase.

He is a very capable forward, both technically and physically, for his age. At 6ft 1, he is tall enough to be a striker in the Premier League - he is also no slouch when presented with goalscoring opportunities, having scored three goals in six games for Arsenal's U18s team this season. As well as this, he has also notched up a pair of assists.

Should Obi-Martin make the jump to Dortmund, it would not be unprecedented. Both Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho experienced wonderful spells with the black and yellow during their formative years - could Obi-Martin follow in the footsteps of these two English superstars?
