Arsenal have handed Eddie Nketiah a new contract and given him the iconic number 14 jersey at the club, as proof of how he is valued at the Emirates.

The deal has surprised many as Nketiah looked like he was on his way out of the club before a change of fortune and form at the end of the season meant he bagged 10 important goals.

The 22-year-old was a long term target for Crystal Palace and the south London side were confident of getting him before he agreed to sign a new five-year deal at the Emirates.

How much is Eddie Nketiah getting at Arsenal now?

That kind of money would have instantly made him one of the highest earners at Crystal Palace with only Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke getting wages in that region.

The fact that Mikel Arteta is willing to hand him such astronomical wages is evidence of his trust and belief in the talent of the English striker.

Eddie Nketiah has been handed the number 14 jersey that was made iconic by French forward Thierry Henry.

Arsenal fans are split on the decision to hand the young striker such a powerful jersey number when he has barely been a regular starter.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright defended the decision to give Nketiah the powerful jersey number saying it’s better to support him, than criticise him.

He said: “What’s a number? Why do you say anything if you have nothing positive to say about our players?

“You can never call yourself an Arsenal fan with negativity of this nature? Would you say this to Eddie’s face? If not, STFU”.

The Gunners are still in the market for a lethal forward and have made contact with Manchester City for Gabriel Jesus.
