The first big trophy of the domestic season will be lifted this weekend as Women’s Super League giants Chelsea and Arsenal go head to head in London.

Sure to be an intriguing clash, the anticipation for the game was heightened even further when the teams faced each other in last week’s FA Cup - a game which saw Emma Hayes’ Blues run out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Sophie Ingle and the free scoring Sam Kerr.

Winners of the League Cup in 2019/20 and 2021/21, Chelsea will be aiming to reclaim their trophy in the capital as they strive to claim a domestic treble. Meanwhile, the Gunners will be fighting tooth and nail to ensure they can turn around last week’s disappointing defeat and lift the trophy themselves for the first time since 2018.

What time does the Continental Cup final start

The Continental Tyres Cup Final is scheduled for a 3pm kick off this Sunday 5 March, with the game taking place at Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park.

Last year’s final was actually played on the same date in 2022, a game which saw Manchester City stage a breathtaking second half second comeback to defeat Chelsea 3-1 at a rain soaked Plough Lane. Australian goal-getter Kerr had handed Chelsea a 1-0 half time lead but a double from City’s Caroline Weir and a strike from Ellen White meant Hayes’ side lost out.

This Sunday’s game will be the second time the teams have clashed in the final of the competition in three years, with the last final between the sides decided by a last minute strike from Chelsea’s Beth England in February 2020.

Chelsea vs Arsenal team news

As confirmed before last week’s clash between the pair, Chelsea will be without Katerina Svitkova after she went underwent surgery due to a knee injury.

For Arsenal, the dynamic duo of Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema continue to be ruled out with long term ACL injuries, while there is also a doubt over goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo and forward Lina Hurtig after both missed last weekend’s FA Cup tie with knocks. This week’s Conti Cup Final could come too soon for them.
