Bayern Munich receive major injury boost ahead of Arsenal clash in Champions League

Bayern Munich have been handed a significant injury boost as they prepare to take on Arsenal in the Champions League.

Arsenal have been handed some bad news ahead of their Champions League quarter final clash with Bayern Munich. As revealed in a press conference by Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann, Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will be out for a much shorter period of time than it was first thought.

Neuer is expected to be out of action for around a week and a half - or 'ten days' as Nagelsmann put it - this would put him firmly in contention to start for Bayern against Arsenal on April 9.

Speaking to the press, Nagelsmann said: "It's just a muscle fibre tear. He won't be out for eight months. So, I don't change my opinion. I told Marc [Ter Stegen] that I'm thankful to have him. Now, he has the chance to be there. But that doesn't change my decision. Manuel will be out for ten days."

How will this affect Arsenal's chances against Bayern Munich in the Champions League?

At the age of 37, Neuer may be past his best - but he isn't still Bayern's number one goalkeeper for sentimental reasons. His reflexes aren't quite as sharp as they once were, but he is still formidable in one on one situations and he reads the game incredibly well.

Moreover, his technical proficiency and vision allows Bayern to play the ball out from the back seamlessly while he is in the team.

So far this season, Neuer has made 18 Bundesliga appearances for Munich, conceding 24 goals and keeping six clean sheets. They have not been enjoying the best of years in Germany's top division, as they currently sit ten points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Due to this, it is likely that they will now focus their efforts on winning the Champions League instead - something that Gunners must be prepared for.
