Arsenal look to keep pace with league leaders Liverpool as they welcome West Ham to the Emirates.

Arsenal welcome West Ham to the Emirates this weekend as they aim to keep pace in the Premier League title race against Liverpool.

The Gunners won 2-0 in their last game against Leicester City thanks to two goals from Mikel Merino, who came on as a substitute to play up front. Mikel Arteta has no fit strikers available to him with the Spaniard stepping up to fill the void.

Whereas West Ham are in need of a win under Graham Potter as they are winless in their last four matches. They come off a 1-0 defeat to Brentford last time out, where Kevin Schade scored the only goal of the game in the fourth minute.

Arsenal injury news

Arsenal will be without five players for the game on Saturday, as they have all been battling long-term injury problems.

Firstly, defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has been ruled out as he continues to recover from a long-term knee injury. Reports emerged last week that the club were considering a second surgery for Tomiyasu with a view to him returning next season with the player confirming on Tuesday he had undergone surgery.

Secondly, Kai Havertz will also miss the game after he suffered a season-ending hamstring injury last week, and he underwent successful surgery over the weekend. The German will likely return at the start of next season. Furthermore, a second striker Gabriel Jesus is also out, and could be on the side-lines until as late as November due to an ACL injury that he suffered in January.

Bukayo Saka continues to work towards a return, but isn’t ready yet for Arsenal. Last week Arteta said: “It's too early; he's in an early stage of the rehab, so when we get a little bit closer, and he starts to do more demanding stuff and has more load, we will see where he is. There's no setback; he's fine”

Saka looks likely to return in mid-March, with the game against Chelsea on the 16th would be the earliest he can return for the Gunners if all goes well in his recovery.

Finally, Gabriel Martinelli is also out injured with a hamstring issue that he suffered during the Gunners’ 2-0 defeat in the Carabao Cup to Newcastle United. He remains out for some time.

West Ham injury news

The Hammers could be without five players for their trip to the Emirates on Saturday with one name in doubt for the game.

Firstly, striker Michail Antonio remains out after he is recovering from an injury he sustained in a car crash in late December. He will likely be out for the remainder of the season.

Secondly, winger Crysencio Summerville is also out with a hamstring injury, and he won’t be ready until April at the earliest assuming all goes well for the former Leeds United man.

Niclas Fullkrug is also out, as he has been dealing with a hamstring injury since the start of the season. It has been on and off since he joined from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

Vladimir Coufal is in doubt for the Arsenal game on Saturday as he is currently being assessed with a hamstring strain that he suffered during the Hammers’ 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on transfer deadline day.

Finally, Lucas Paqueta is currently being assessed after he was reported to be devastated when he withdrew from a training session on Tuesday. The injury is claimed to be an ankle issue. It is not yet clear as to how long Paqueta will miss, but it’s looking more and more likely that Potter will be without the Brazilian on Saturday afternoon.
