The Gunners were linked with a number of midfielders last month, including Premier League stars Douglas Luiz and Bruno Guimaraes.

However, they failed to bolster their squad in January and will now resume their search at the end of the season.

One midfielder they are targeting for a summer move is Feyenoord’s Orkun Kokcu, according to Ziggo Sport.

Mikel Arteta currently relies on Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey and Albert Sambi Lokonga in the middle of the park and is eager to add the 21-year-old as an alternative option.

A switch from the Eredivisie to the Premier League would be a risky one and the midfielder has also been heavily criticised by Rafael van der Vaart, who claimed Kokcu is ‘too arrogant’.

If Arsenal are to make the move for the Turkey international this summer then it will be interesting to see if Reiss Nelson plays a role in potential negotations, with the 22-year-old currently on loan with the Dutch club.

After joining Feyenoord’s academy at 14 years old, Kokcu went on to make his debut less than four years later in the KNVB Cup.

The midfielder has become a vital part of Feyenoord’s starting line-up in recent years and has already scored five goals and assisted another seven in the Eredivisie this season.

Kokcu made his international debut for Turkey at 19 years old and has made another seven appearances since, scoring his only goal for his country in a World Cup qualifier against Montenegro in November.
