Arsenal v Man Utd final injury news with prolific £170m duo to miss out
Both Arsenal and Manchester United are set to be without England duo Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford this weekend.
Arsenal risk going three fixtures without a win against Manchester United this weekend as FA Cup fever grips the country.
Mikel Arteta's side have had just days to bounce back from a 2-0 humbling at the hands of Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium, which followed points dropped in a 1-1 draw against Brighton last weekend. The New Year's Day 3-1 win over Brentford already seems a long time ago and the Gunners will look to avoid another disappointment against the Red Devils on Sunday.
Previewing the game, Arteta said: “Well, [it's] a massive part of our history. We've won it 14 times. It's a competition that is very attached to us and a beautiful game to play in against a massive club and a very special occasion with the number of supporters they are going to bring as well. A very good game.”
Ahead of Ruben Amorim's visit to the Emirates Stadium, LondonWorld has your latest injury news. Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford, who have a combined value of £170 million according to Transfermarkt, are set to miss out.
Arsenal team news
Mikel Arteta isn't having to manage any ‘doubts’ for this weekend's FA Cup action with the Gunners' injured stars all certainly sidelined for the meeting with Manchester United. Starboy Bukayo Saka continues to be the biggest miss, having not played since picking up a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace shortly before Christmas.
At the end of December, the Spaniard said: "He has had a procedure and everything went well, but unfortunately he will be out for many, many weeks. It will be more than two months. I don't know exactly how much longer. It will depend on how the scar tissue starts to heal, the first week or so, and the mobility of that. It is very difficult to say.
"The replacement of Bukayo is going to be the team. There were moments where it flowed well tonight and moments where you could see there is still work to do. But I am certain that we are going to do that. We have to rely on the team and not the individual."
Arteta had turned to impressive youngster Ethan Nwaneri to fill in for Saka in recent weeks but now the 17-year-old is also sidelined. Arteta said: "He didn't really know, to be fair. He said, 'I am feeling something but I don't really know what it is'.
"He has earned the right to step up and play for us and now he has started some games - some big games - and impacted those games in the way he has done, in different positions too.
"I am gutted for him because the injury is going to stop that, but it is another step in that development phase that he is in. I am really happy with the way he is going."
Full-backs Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are longer term lay-offs with knee injuries and aren't in contention to return this weekend.
Manchester United team news
The Marcus Rashford debacle continues to unfold at Manchester United. Having been left out of the squad for weeks when fit, the winger then was hit by an illness shortly after his return to the bench.
That bug kept Rashford out against Liverpool and Amorim said: "At the moment he is ill. He is not training. He is going to be out this week."
Mason Mount is working his way back from an injury picked up against Spurs in December. At the time, Amorim said: “I don’t know the exact date, but it’s going to be for long. And that’s it, it’s part of football, and you continue.”
That makes Rashford and Mount both doubts for the trip to the Emirates Stadium. Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof both have muscle injuries and are likely to be absent in the FA Cup.
Teasing rotation on Friday, Amorim said: "I think we rotated more in that part when we were trying to find out what kind of players we have. Players have returned from injury and now we are rotating less. Now we have had time to train a little bit more, I expect my team to understand a little bit better, the game. I don't rotate because I want to rotate; I am not different from other coaches."
