Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka were on target to defeat a struggling Hammers side, while Liverpool lost to a last-gasp Chelsea goal.

Elsewhere, Tottenham continued their solid start with a 2-1 away win over Leeds United, ending the Yorkshire side’s more than one year unbeaten run at home. Mathys Tel scored the opener with a deflected strike, and after Noah Okafor equalised for the hosts, Mohamed Kudus struck from outside the box to net a winner.

Both of those players have secured a spot in the WhoScored Premier League team of the week. Take a look below at the full team and the ratings.

Thomas Frank on Tel’s performance

Speaking after Spurs’ win over Leeds, Frank said of Tel: “I'm so happy. I got emotional almost after the game because he's a young man who has a strong character and trains well every day. Even though he hasn’t played as much, and then I play him as a striker - crazy thoughts by the Head Coach, because maybe he’s better to the left, he can also play there, of course… he’s not involved in the Champions League squad, he just came back.

“The way he scored against West Ham was solid, good. But that’s one game, then the next one, Doncaster, better, arriving in the right areas, yes, he didn't score, but the first thing is to arrive and the link up play, work hard. Then the third game, get the goal, great finish, I know the little deflection, but it’s a great connection, arriving in the right areas, working hard. I’m just so happy, all the praise.”

Rice picks up injury in impressive display

Declan Rice may have scored and impressed in the win over West Ham, but he also picked up a back issue that will need to be assessed. Arteta said after the game: “He's not all right because he asked me to come off, so that's a shame. He had a pain in his back and he could not carry on which is something very unusual for Declan so we'll have to assess him and see how he is.”
