Arsenal to hand Tottenham clear path to Eberechi Eze as Crystal Palace 'contact' Gunners

All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Arsenal as they close in on the start of the new season.

Arsenal are now just days away from returning to competitive action, with the Gunners facing Manchester United in their Premier League opener on Sunday. Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta have been very busy in the summer transfer window, and it will be interesting to see whether that translates into a good start or whether there are teething issues.

The Gunners may not be done in the transfer market, either, with another incoming expected, while many more exits need to be agreed before the end of the window. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Emirates Stadium.

Eze deal ‘off’

Arsenal could be about to hand rivals Tottenham a clear path to signing Eberechi Eze. According to TBR Football, the Gunners are currently unwilling to meet Crystal Palace’s asking price of £60million.

Eze had a release clause worth £68million until a couple of weeks ago, but the Eagles are said to be holding out for £60million, while Arsenal previously felt they could do a deal for around £55million. The report claims the Gunners are not willing to pay so much for Eze, likely owing to the huge amount of money they have already spent this summer. Tottenham could now take advantage as they circle Eze following James Maddison’s injury.

Palace eye Arsenal talent

Crystal Palace are reported in touch with Arsenal about a deal of their own, with the Eagles reportedly interested in Arsenal talent Dan Casey, who is in need of a new contract after a superb season with the under-18s.

Fabrizio Romano has reported: “Crystal Palace and Norwich both made contact with Arsenal for 2007-born talent Dan Casey. Arsenal have also tabled an offer to keep Casey as he’s currently out of contract, talks ongoing. Casey (20 goals with U18 last season) could leave if a compensation package is agreed."

Adams doubts Gyokeres

Arsenal Tony Adams is in doubt over whether Viktor Gyokeres was the right signing for the club this summer. He said during Indo Sport’s season preview: “Ahhhh… [audience laughs]… What?! Was there too much of a long pause there? I think he’s got a really big call to make this year and, for me, he hasn’t done it and the call is to make Declan Rice captain. Declan is my kind of captain and it might free up [Martin] Odegaard up to play with a bit more freedom because he had a very average season last year. The Portuguese lad [Gyokeres]… I don’t know yet. He’s not tried and tested.

“I would have liked to have seen them get Ollie Watkins to be honest with you. He’s a Gooner, he might have given us a year and we might have won the title. But I think sometimes when you’ve got the main man and the captain of the club… Terry Venables did it, he took it off David Platt and he put me as captain and Glenn Hoddle took me out and put Alan Shearer, which was a silly decision! But every now and again, as a manager, you have to put someone that reflects you, reflects the football club, someone who thinks can actually take you to the next level.”
