Arsenal are set to use the January transfer window to their advantage with the addition of two players, according to reports.

The Gunners have improved significantly under Mikel Arteta this season with the club currently sat fourth in the Premier League after 20 games.

In order to remain in a top-four spot come May they are looking to bolster their ranks with the additions of Gini Wijnaldum and Alexander Isak.

According to FourFourTwo, Arsenal want to add Wijnaldum to their squad as the Dutch midfielder is currently unsettled at Paris Saint-Germain.

This, plus the fact the Gunners are losing both Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny to Ghana and Egypt respectively in the African Cup of Nations, as well as Ainsley Maitland-Niles set to leave the club this month for game-time elsewhere, it means a move for Wijnaldum would be ideal.

The Dutchman is no stranger to the Premier League, having played for Newcastle United and most recently Liverpool, where he won the English top-flight and Champions League.

He played every game of last season’s Premier League campaign for Liverpool and would slot brilliantly into a three-man midfield or duo.

Another name being linked with the club is Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak, with Arsenal ‘ahead’ of Barcelona in the race for the 22-year-old.

According to El Nacional, the La Liga outfit don’t want to sell Isak to a division rival also fighting for a top-four finish, and the Gunners could be the Swedish international’s next venture.

However, the Spanish site claims that Barcelona have spoken to Isak’s representatives and a deal wouldn’t come cheap with his release clause set at £75m - a fee that might be able to be negotiated between Sociedad and Arsenal.

The pursuit of the striker comes after tension between Arteta and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have emerged in recent weeks, leading to rumours the Gabon international wants out of the Emirates Stadium.

Alexandre Lacazette is another Gunners’ player potentially leaving the club in the near future, so with the addition of Isak, it would allow for both the former and Aubameyang to depart.
