Arsenal track Thomas Partey replacement as Kieran Tierney transfer verdict issued
All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Arsenal as they turn attention to Brentford.
Arsenal now turn their attention to a New Year’s Day clash with Brentford after taking care of business against Ipswich Town on Friday night. Kai Havertz netted the all-important winner on Friday, although the Gunners did limit their visitors to no shots on target.
Mikel Arteta’s men are now six points behind leaders Liverpool having played a game more, and they are still in a position where they can ill-afford slip-ups, needing to make up ground. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal eye Agoumé
Arsenal are being linked with a move for Sevilla star Lucien Agoumé, who is said to be attracting plenty of attention. According to Foot Mercato, the 22-year-old holding midfielder could be a target as Arsenal contemplate replacing Thomas Partey and/or Jorginho.
Agoumé has only been with Sevilla since the summer, and he would likely cost over £10million, but he could be a bargain given his age and potential. Agoumé has made 16 league appearances for Sevilla so far this season.
Arteta on Saka replacement
Arteta believes it will be up to more than just Gabriel Martinelli to replace the injured Bukayo Saka, with the Brazilian now likely to play on the right, as he did on Friday night.
“As I said, I think the replacement of B is going to be the team, you know, and that unit in particular and having minutes together and asking different things and doing that,” Arteta said. “There was moments that it flowed really well. There were moments that we can still have some work to do there and improve it and adapt to the qualities of the individuals. And I'm certain that we're going to do that.”
Tierney to Celtic verdict
Former Celtic man John Hartson has been speaking about the possible return of Kieran Tierney to Celtic. He told The Celtic Way: “Kieran Tierney - having not played the games that he has - can Celtic get him back and all of a sudden get him playing 40-50 games a year like they used to? I very much doubt it because he has been injury prone.
"Yes he is a fantastic, fantastic player and is one of Celtic's own. He would need to drop massively in wages. He will certainly have a number of offers out of contract. Can you imagine the excitement of the fans if he was to come back?"
