Arsenal are expected to step up their transfer business over the coming days and weeks.

Arsenal are said to edging towards their first signing of the summer, but what will come next? The Gunners are on a mission to strengthen with signings aplenty between now and the start of the new season, determined to finally win their first premier League title in more than two decades.

The pressure will be on Mikel Arteta to deliver a major title next season, but he will be helped with more big spending, as has been the case over recent summers. Despite big spending, Arsenal have now found themselves in a position where they need to add depth in a number of areas.

It looks as though Martin Zubimendi will be the first in, set to arrive on a deal worth around £53million from Real Sociedad. It’s claimed Zubimendi was in London over the weekend, and the deal is set to be confirmed, although the Spain international won’t officially be an Arsenal player until the summer window opens.

When Zubimendi is done, there will be plenty of interest over who will be next in, and Arteta and Andrea Berta will already be looking at a number of positions. Thomas Partey could well depart, and that will mean another midfielder is required, while another centre-back is likely to be signed.

On top of that, a winger and a striker is required, and Arsenal are likely to spend big in those areas. Another area the Gunners need to add a player in is the goalkeeper position. David Raya is the undoubted starting keeper, but there is no back-up keeper as things stand, with Neto having spent last season on loan from AFC Bournemouth, and he will be returning to the South coast,

According to The Athletic, Arsenal’s next signing after Zubimendi will be a goalkeeper who actually spent last on loan with Bournemouth, and that is Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. It’s expected the Spaniard will only cost around £5million, and the report claims he will be the ‘likely’ next arrival after Zubimendi this summer.

Kepa on his season with the Cherries

Speaking in March about his time at Bournemouth and working under Spaniard Andoni Iraola, Kepa told DAZN: ”I had very good references, and his call helped me take the step. club. I needed to enjoy football again, feel important, and have the opportunity to play every weekend. Being here has allowed me to do that and has been key to rediscovering the passion you seek as a footballer.

“You can clearly see the change when you face teams managed by Spanish managers like (Mikel) Arteta or (Pep) Guardiola. Compared to the traditional direct English football, based on taking advantage of every corner and second chance, they present a completely different way of understanding the game.”

Meanwhile, Iraola said about one of Kepa’s performances, against Manchester United: “Today, he has been amazing. I think he's looking very solid, he has done some very good games, the last ones. But today he had, apart from the good decisions on the ball, in a backline that is very, very young, I think we need this experience like calm, he shows from Adam [Smith], from Lewis Cook, from Kepa to help the other players.

“And apart from that he has very good shot saving, let's say. But it makes the performance very good.”
