Arsenal set to ‘reward’ defender with a new contract after stellar Premier League campaign

Arsenal are keen to keep hold of this season’s biggest stars.

Arsenal have enjoyed a terrific Premier League campaign and look set to secure Champions League football for the first time since the 2014/15 season.

Their success has come thanks to a youthful side that has starred the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

While their young attack have shone under Mikel Arteta, it is defender Gabriel Magalhães that is set to be rewarded with a new contract.

The Gunners are reportedly eager to hand the Brazilian a new deal after impressing at the Emirates Stadium, according to CBS Sports.

Gabriel joined Arsenal from Lille for £23 million as a young promising defender and has excelled in the two years he has been in London.

He hit the ground running following his arrival and has since been one of their key players, picking up 13 clean sheets and four goals this season.

The Gunners’ backline has become increasingly strong over the past year, with Gabriel joined by the likes of Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney.

Arteta clearly sees Gabriel as a vital part of their impressive defence and is keen to keep him at the club for years to come.

The 24-year-old signed a five year deal when he arrived at the English capital which won’t expire until 2025, however the Premier League side clearly believe Gabriel deserves improved terms to thank him for his performances.

The centre-back is yet to attract the attention of Europe’s elite but Arsenal certainly don’t want to risk nearing the end of his deal with all eyes on their star man.

Meanwhile, Saka and Martinelli both have two years remaining on their contracts and there is no doubt Arsenal will also be considering securing them down to fresh deals too.
