Mikel Arteta is reportedly facing a major decision over the future of Aaron Ramsdale after it was suggested the England goalkeeper was ‘ready to quit’ Arsenal.

The former Sheffield United stopper swapped Bramall Lane for the Emirates Stadium when the Gunners agreed a £30m deal with their current Premier League rivals during the summer of 2021. After initially playing a supporting role to then-number one Bernd Leno, Ramsdale became Arteta’s first-choice goalkeeper after keeping clean sheets in a 6-0 Carabao Cup win at West Bromwich Albion and on his Gunners Premier League debut in a narrow win against Norwich City just days later.

After playing each and every minute of last season as the Gunners fell short in the Premier League title race, Ramsdale actually played the opening four games of the current season before loan signing David Raya was handed a first start in a 1-0 win at Everton in September. The Spaniard has kept his place for all but three Premier League fixtures since that Goodison Park triumph, with loan regulations preventing him from featuring against parent club Brentford.

The former Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper is expected to make a permanent move to the Emirates Stadium this summer and that has placed more uncertainty over Ramsdale’s future with the Gunners. Newcastle United and Chelsea are both said to be keen on the 25-year-old as they look to boost their goalkeeping ranks and Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has already hinted over what could lie ahead for Ramsdale as the end of the season approaches.

Asked about Ramsdale’s future and links to other Premier League clubs, Arteta said last month: ‘You know I’m not going to comment on those things. A suggestion? There is a big reality that Aaron will be here because he is our player and has a contract.’

However, TEAMtalk have now claimed Ramsdale is ‘ready to quit’ the Gunners this summer and have revealed Arsenal will demand around £60m before they will authorise a departure.
