Arsenal receive '£20m offer' from European club with transfer 'talks ongoing'

Arsenal are getting closer to landing an important transfer window to add to the sizable chunk of change they will collect through the sale of Emile Smith Rowe. The Gunners need to bring in significant cash across the course of this summer as they look to continue spending.
Mikel Arteta has already signed David Raya for £27million and Riccardo Calafiori for £42million, and the summer incomings are not likely to end there. But with Profit and Sustainability rules at play, Arsenal need to balance the books by offloading many of the fringe players that do not figure in their plans.

David Ornstein has tweeted: “EXCL: Marseille make an improved offer to sign Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal. New bid (nearing €20m) similar to previous (offer), but closer to the formula Arsenal want. Likely to be deemed unrealistic but talks ongoing + five-year contract agreed; 25-year-old keen on Marseille.”
That suggests Nketiah is keen on securing a move to the South of France, and it will now be up to Arsenal to wrap up a deal with Marseille. The Gunners were said to want more than £30million for their out of favour striker, but they seem unlikely to get that, at least upfront. It remains to be seen whether Marseille will be willing to meet those terms with the help of add-ons.
Arteta already has Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus as striker options, and with a new striker wanted this summer, Nketiah knows he is going to have to move on for regular first team opportunities. West Ham have been linked, but it seems they are concentrating their efforts on other targets.
