Arsenal are preparing a mammoth summer approach for Newcastle United talisman Alexander Isak, according to reports.

It is no secret that the Gunners are in the market for a new striker this summer. Reports have linked Arsenal with big-money moves for Victor Osimhen, Ivan Toney and Viktor Gyokeres.

Mikel Arteta has assembled a talented, youthful squad in recent seasons but question marks remain about his striker options. Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus have bagged just nine Premier League goals between them this season.

Arsenal have competed in two title races without an elite striker and signing one could be the final piece of the jigsaw to elevate them to new heights. Newcastle striker Isak, despite his injury problems, has been a revelation in English football.

His technical ability, frame and playing style, with the Swede able to operate on the left flank, has drawn comparisons to Gunners legend Thierry Henry. Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand urged Arsenal to splash the cash following the Magpies’ 3-2 defeat to Manchester City in January.

“Alexander Isak was running in behind constantly,” he told his Vibe with Five podcast. “If I’m Arsenal, I’m going all out and buying him.”

Fresh reports are now suggesting Arsenal may do exactly that once the summer transfer window opens. Football Insider claim the Gunners have “concrete interest” in the 24-year-old, who could cost up to £100million.

Just two months ago, Isak admitted that playing for Newcastle was “probably” the happiest time of his career so far. He said: “It’s very special. It (playing at St James’ Park) gives that extra energy and it makes it more fun as well.

“Yeah, probably (his happiest time in football). I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed playing home games as much as I do here. Since I came it’s been going really well. For me personally and for the team. It’s nothing to complain about.”
