Arsenal 'ready' to submit bid for Matheus Cunha alternative who could cost just £46.8m

Arsenal are said to have identified a new striker transfer target as their search for a new attacker goes on.

Arsenal are said to have identified another striker target as they look to bolster their attack this month. The Gunners have been left short at the top end of the pitch, with Gabriel Jesus now out for the season with an ACL injury, while Bukayo Saka will miss a couple of months with a hamstring issue.

The Gunners were already struggling to score from open play aside from a purple patch over the festive period, and so the injuries are threatening to derail their already faltering title bid completely.

Mikel Arteta knows he must go into the market to remedy the situation, but he has maintained that the club will only pursue the right kind of deal. He responded over the weekend when asked about the pressure of making a signing: “Not at the result at the moment. You look at the performances, I don’t know how many teams are playing at this level in the league. When you look at the bench, probably you say I think we are very short.”

A number of forwards have been linked, including Wolves star Matheus Cunha, who is yet to put pen-to-paper on a new deal, but it seems there could be another forward under consideration. TVplay.it have reported that Inter Milan star Marcus Thuram is of interest, and the Gunners are said to be ready to submit a bid.

La Repubblica have previously reported that Inter will ask for between £46.8million and £50.7million, which would represent a big investment from the Gunners, especially given their spending over recent years. The 27-year-old forward is currently under contract until 2028, so Inter can stand firmly by whatever valuation they have.

The Frenchman has made 26 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring 14 and providing six assists. The 29-time France international has been with Inter since 2023, scoring 26 goals in 55 league games. Prior to that, he scored 34 goals in 111 league appearances for Borussia Mönchengladbach, so he is not a particularly prolific scorer despite having a clear ability to find the net.
