Arsenal now pushing for £40m winger as European giants eye bargain defender transfer

All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Arsenal as they prepare to face Manchester City.

Arsenal now turn their attention to a potentially title-defining clash with Manchester City after taking on Girona in the Champions League on Wednesday night. The Gunners are used to facing City as title rivals, but this season, neither are the favourites at this stage, but Arsenal need to keep winning to get back into the thick of the race, still six points behind leaders Liverpool.

In the meantime, Mikel Arteta is searching for a new attacker ahead of Monday night’s transfer deadline. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Emirates Stadium.

Tel interest

Arsenal are again being linked with a move for Bayern Munich star Mathys Tel having reportedly watching him since his days at Rennes. TZ journalist Philipp Kessler says the Gunners are interested in the 19-year-old as they look to replace the injured Bukayo Saka.

Elsewhere, Fabrizio Romano has said that Tel is willing to make the move, ready for a new challenge after making 60 league appearances since 2022 with Bayern. Bayern may feel they need to replace Tel before allowing him to leave, but Arsenal’s need for a wideman is clear. It’s claimed Bayern would want more than £40million.

Zinchenko latest

Inter Milan are now said to be pushing for a deal to sign Arsenal full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko, who is said to be available this month. According to InterLive, Inter are now interested after Borussia Dortmund reportedly decided to postpone any deal until the summer.

While Zinchenko is reportedly available this month, Inter too are eyeing a summer deal, sensing that a deal could be done on the cheap in the summer due to the fact the defender will be in the final year of his contract.

Wissa latest

Arsenal have been namechecked in a transfer update involving Brentford forward Yoane Wissa. David Ornstein told TalkSPORT: “Look, in an ideal world, Brentford would keep Wissa and he’s delivering for them and that’s crucial, he’s 28 and he’s got a couple of years left on his contract. They’re wily foxes at the Gtech and they will put a price on his head that someone has to meet or he’s staying.

“Clearly, Forest didn’t meet that with £22 million, their interest remains, will they go higher? Will that entice Brentford? They’re in no rush to do it, they’re in no financial necessity to do it. We talk about Arsenal and Tottenham, would they look into a Wissa? I don’t know about Arsenal, I don’t think he fits their profile, will Tottenham? He’s a terrific player but of course, that’s one to keep an eye on as a player who could move before the deadline.”
