The Gunners are set to swoop for Serie A star as interest in Sporting CP ace wanes

Arsenal are eyeing up a potential move for the Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic next summer, according to the latest reports, as they look for a possible alternative to Sporting CP’s goal-scoring ace Viktor Gyokeres.

It had been highly anticipated that a new striker would arrive at the Emirates this summer, with the likes of Ivan Toney, Benjamin Sesko and Gyokeres all supposedly on the shortlist. However, Mikel Arteta instead brought in a new defender, midfielder, winger and goalkeeper with no new striker welcomed to N7.

Teamtalk has now reported that next summer could be the time the Gunners finally bolster their frontline, with the Serie A star said to be on a ‘list of targets’. The report adds that there is a ‘good chance’ the 24-year-old will be on the move at the end of the season.

The ex-Fiorentina striker has scored 35 Serie A goals in 80 matches since joining the Turin-based club in 2022. The 2023/24 campaign saw him find the back of the net 16 times in 33 fixtures, and he contributed  a further four assists.

He has already added to his tally this season by scoring twice in five league matches, as well as assisting in Juventus’ Champions League 3-1 win over PSV.

The Gunners reportedly tracked Vlahovic closely in the last January transfer window but the Old Lady had no intention of letting the Serbian leave at that time. Nine months on and Vlahovic’s current contract is set to expire in 2026. Negotiations between the two parties appear to be at a standstill and Juve may well be forced into selling him next summer if they wish to make a profit off his departure.

The Emirates club are said to be hopeful that Vlahovic’s situation will evolve similarly to that of Federico Chiesa, who sealed a cut-price move to Liverpool during the summer. The Italy international had just one year left on his contract at Juventus and the club were forced to sell the winger for just £12.5m

Sources say that Arsenal are ‘certain’ that they can take advantage of Vlahovic’s current contract situation - which will have just one year left on it by next summer - and sign him for much lower than the £66.6m price tag the Serie A giants placed upon him in the summer.

Arsenal have, however, are believed to have kept Gyokeres and Sesko on their striker wish-list just in case, as well as Lille’s Jonathan David and Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram.
