Arsenal player ratings and gallery: three 9/10s and plenty 8/10s as Saka settles thriller

Arsenal returned to the summit of the Premier League table after a hard-fought 3-2 win over Liverpool at the Emirates.

Arsenal returned to the summit of the Premier League table with a 3-2 win over Liverpool at the Emirates.

Bukayo Saka scored the winning goal from the penalty spot to ensure all three points remained in north London and leave Liverpool with just two wins so far this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side got off to a perfect start after youngster Gabriel Martinelli scored in the first minute of the game to set up an enthralling encounter.

Darwin Nunez levelled for Liverpool before Bukayo Saka profited from a defensive lapse to put the Gunners 2-1 up just before the break.

Jurgen Klopp would be concerned as his side conceded in the first minutes and almost the last minute of the first half, a sign of the team lacking concentration in an electric encounter.

Roberto Firmino, on for the injured Diaz, fired beyond keeper Aaron Ramsdale to level for Liverpool again before Thiago was penalised for a kick on Jesus, Saka stepped up to score his second and Arsenal’s third to secure all three points.

The win takes Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League table after they had momentarily lost it to Manchester City who thrashed Southampton 4-0 on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta’s team is expected to now compete for the Premier League title after a storming start to the campaign. The likes of Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka are firing on all cylinders.

Here is how we rated every member of the Arsenal at the Emirates today.
