Arsenal could yet the chance to sign an elite winger for free next summer.

Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane could be looking for a new club next summer, with his contract at the Allianz Arena ticking towards zero. Sane has been with Bayern since 2020 when he joined from Manchester City, and he has made a big impact, scoring 30 times in 128 league appearances from out wide.

With Sane a big earner, Bayern have a big decision to make over whether to give the Germany international a new contract, especially given the wealth of big-earning wingers they have at the club. That’s something German journalist Christian Falk has detailed speaking to CaughtOffside. “Bayern have four wing players - between Serge Gnabry, Michael Olise, Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman - and I don’t think they’ll go into the next campaign with all four, as they have to sell players,” he said.

“In the case of Sane, they won’t be selling him, as his contract expires in less than a year (June 2025). If he becomes a free agent, of course, they’ll still have money left over as the next player to come in is unlikely to earn as much as Sane did. So, they have to make a decision, and Leroy Sane is working very hard at the moment to show that he can still be important for Bayern Munich because there have yet to be direct talks over his future. On January 1, as we all know, he can begin talks over a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club. So, he would like to get a new contract at Bayern Munich, as he’s enjoying his time at the club.”

According to the same publication, Falk has indicated that Arsenal are keeping an eye on the situation to see if they can offer Sane a pre-contract in January, given they still need more competition out wide despite the loan signing of Raheem Sterling, and Sane has already proven himself in the Premier League.

Though, it’s also claimed that Manchester United are serious about the potential of signing the former City star, as they look to add competition out wide, though it’s true that the arrival of Ruben Amorim could influence their transfer plans and strategy.
