Arsenal could land long term £58m striker target amid 'ongoing' interest in La Liga talent
All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Arsenal as they prepare to face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup.
Arsenal are now preparing for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup clash with Newcastle United, kicking off the semi-finals with their home leg. The Gunners will have been pleased to see Liverpool draw on Sunday, meaning Saturday’s draw with Brighton did not cost Mikel Arteta’s men any more ground.
But the Gunners will still be well aware that they need to start making up ground and quickly. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Emirates Stadium as Arteta scours the market for possible improvements.
Vlahovic opportunity
Arsenal could finally get their chance to land Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic, who has been linked with the Gunners for some time. According to Football Italia, Juventus may be willing to listen to offers for the striker this month despite him scoring 12 goals in 23 games.
Vlahovic has been linked with a move away from Juve for some time, and Arsenal are usually the team tipped to land him. The Gunners do need a striker, and much will come down to how much Juve demand, with Arsenal seemingly unlikely to spend a huge amount on a frontman this month. It is reported elsewhere that Vlahovic would cost around £58million if he was to move.
Garcia interest remains
Arsenal are still reportedly interested in a deal to land Espanyol keeper Joan Garcia, who was a target in the summer. The Gunners are said to have made an offer for the keeper, but the Spanish club demanded that his £25million or so release clause was met.
According to AS, Arsenal are still interested in a deal for Garcia, who has been behind a leady Espanyol defence this season. The Catalan club are currently sitting inside the bottom three. The Gunners would be brave to spend so much on a young keeper given they have a starting stopper in David Raya, while they have other positions they need to strengthen, but they are still said to be interested in Garcia.
Arteta on cup test
Arsenal boss Arteta is aiming to go all the way in the Carabao Cup, saying: “Well it’s the icing on the cake. Obviously we work every single day to achieve that, to enjoy it with our people, and there’s not a single moment that stands out more than actually when you have that cup and you’re offering the cup to your supporters, sharing it with the people that you work every day with.
