Arsenal and Liverpool target drops hint hours after Fabrizio Romano update in Newcastle United boost

Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon appears to have provided a quickfire reply to transfer rumours after fresh claims that Arsenal could make a move for the England international.
The Gunners are in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer, with a wide player expected to be added alongside a central target man. There has been no shortage of transfer rumours surrounding who that could be.

Arsenal still have Newcastle United star on summer shopping list
Newcastle United return to the Champions League next season and signed a new long-term deal with the club last October. He made the move to St James’ Park from Everton for £45 million in January 2023.
On Tuesday, GIVEMESPORT carried an update on Arsenal interest thanks to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. It was claimed that the Newcastle United man remained ‘firmly’ on the Gunners’ shortlist as July arrived.
Romano said: “Arsenal interest is true, he is one of the players they like, and they discussed internally. But what I understand, it’s not that Arsenal have opened any negotiations with the Newcastle or with his agents. It's just an appreciation for the player, but for the winger at Arsenal, I think we have to be bit patient before we understand who is the player they really want to sign.”

Anthony Gordon appears to shut down transfer talk
Speaking as Arsenal were linked with Gordon last summer, club legend Ian Wright said: “With Anthony Gordon, we are looking at a player who has gone somewhere and has blossomed. What Eddie Howe has done for him, his movement in off the line, his finishing, his energy. We are now looking at a winger who has firmly put himself in the picture for the Euros.
“Anthony Gordon looks like a problem. He is a problem. He is bringing seven out of ten performances every week… eight, nines maybe. His consistency has gone somewhere else. Eddie Howe has got to take a lot of credit for the way he has nurtured him into an England international.”
However, just hours after Romano’s claim, Gordon appeared to shut down any transfer links. The winger, who is also a target for Liverpool as per the Liverpool Echo, posted a shot of himself in the new Newcastle United third kit on Instagram. In a simple caption, the winger appeared to pledge his allegiance to Newcastle United as transfer talk continues. He wrote: “3rd kit. 3rd season.”
