The Spaniard has been chosen as Steven Gerrard’s replacement and will officially take over on 1st November once his move from La Liga side Villarreal has been finalised. He’ll be looking to rebuild his reputation in England after an underwhelming 18 months in charge at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have emerged as potential suitors for Manchester United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo. As detailed in a report by The Sun, they have been ‘sounded out’ as a potential destination for the Portugal international along with Napoli, Chelsea and Newcastle United. The 37-year-old’s future is up in the air and his contract expires next summer.

USA international Weston McKennie, who is currently on the books of Juventus, is believed to be on Arsenal’s radar. According to CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs, Arteta’s side have ‘scouted’ him but there will be competition for his signature. The likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Leeds United have also been mentioned as possible interested parties.
