Arsenal are expected to confirm the signing of defender Jurrien Timber from Ajax this week but it’s an all-too familiar tale for the club’s communication staff.

The overly-excited brother of Jurrien Timber appears to have confirmed the Dutchman's completed move to Arsenal over the weekend with an Instagram story that probably shouldn't have seen the light of day.

The Ajax star has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer as Mikel Arteta continues his project in North London. The Gunners have already signed Kai Havertz this summer and a deal for Timber, along with one for Declan Rice, was tipped to be announced in the coming days by the club.

Last summer, Timber had been linked with a move to work with former boss Erik ten Hag at Manchester United but it appears that it is Arteta who has got his man on a £40 million deal.

No doubt, social media teams at Arsenal have been working in overdrive to storyboard announcement ideas and put the pieces in place for a shot at a viral moment.

However, it seems the cat is out of the bag when it comes to the 22-year-old defender.

Timber's brother Shamier Timber Coffie uploaded an image of Timber's farewell party onto Instagram over the weekend and the photo included a large balloon display with the footballer sporting the Arsenal top.

The caption read: "Jurrien's goodbye party. See you in the streets of London."

It comes just weeks after Arsenal's announcement video for the signing of Kai Havertz leaked online before being formally shared by the club.

It lead to the forward lamenting the leak online and sharing his disappointment at how the transfer news broke. He took to social media to write: "I would have preferred for you to hear my thoughts on leaving Chelsea first from myself before my thoughts on me joining my new team. This isn’t my style and it upsets me that you had to hear of it in this way.

"Today, I find myself at a crossroads, where words can’t describe the emotions I’m feeling. It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter, saying goodbye to the club that has become my second home, and to the incredible fans who have supported me throughout this amazing journey."
