Arsenal ready to strike £21.2m sale to fund £51m release clause activation

Arsenal are positioned in 2nd place in the Premier League table behind Liverpool

Arsenal drew 1-1 away at Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon. Leandro Trossard got their goal against the Toffees but they weren’t able to get three points. The Gunners remain in 2nd place in the table behind Liverpool with seven fixtures left to play this season.

Mikel Arteta has the chance to strengthen his ranks with some new faces this summer. He also has the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door if needed. That would help free up space and funds and pave the way for some fresh reinforcements to arrive at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal ready to offload Jakub Kiwior

According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal are ‘ready’ to sell Jakub Kiwior at the end of the campaign for a fee of around €25million (£21.2million). The report adds that Sevilla, Villarreal, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Napoli, Atalanta, Fiorentina and Bologna all looked at him this past winter. 2024 Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are said to be keen on him now.

Kiwior, 25, was snapped up by the Gunners in 2023 after catching the eye at Spezia. He can play as either a centre-back or left-back if needed. The Poland international, who has made 33 caps for his country to date, has played 57 matches for Arteta’s side and has chipped in with two goals.

After his arrival in London a couple of years ago, the player said: "When I saw my name on an Arsenal shirt for the first time, I just laughed! I was so happy to see my name on the shirt of such a huge club. For me, it's an incredibly happy moment and the pinnacle to play for such a big club.

"I've always dreamt of playing in the Premier League. I knew it wouldn't be easy, and if I got the chance, then I knew I'd have to make the most of it because it was one of my biggest dreams. For me, it's the best league. I'm thrilled to be here.

"It's huge for me that Arsenal were interested and that I'm able to be here. I'm aware that Arsenal are a massive club in a top league, so I didn't really have to think about much else. I was just ecstatic and really wanted to come.”

Arsenal target Martin Zubimendi

CaughtOffside claim Arsenal are prepared to meet Martin Zubimendi’s release clause at Real Sociedad. His price tag is €60million (£51million) and he has stayed in Spain this term despite attention from Liverpool last year. The La Liga outfit are likely to face a battle to keep hold of him now though amid interest from elsewhere.

The Gunners could see Zubimendi as someone to bolster their midfield department. If they landed him, he would give them more competition and depth. He would also inject some more quality into their squad.

Zubimendi, 26, has been with Real Sociedad for his whole career to date. He rose up through their academy and was a regular for them at various different youth levels. The Spain international has played 266 games so far in his career and has found the net on 14 occasions. His future is up in the air at this moment in time as Arteta eyes a transfer.
