Arsenal injury and return dates as fresh 'hamstring' blow makes it 5 out
The latest Arsenal injury news after their defeat to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup.
Arsenal missed out on a Carabao Cup final on Wednesday night, losing 2-0 to Newcastle United at St James’ Park, making it 4-0 overall. The Gunners are now down to the Premier League and Champions League as far as possible silverware goes.
Mikel Arteta’s men will have some rest between now and their Premier League clash with Leicester City, when they will hope to have a number of injured players back. Here we round up all the latest injury news surrounding the Emirates Stadium.
Gabriel Martinelli
Martinelli picked up what appeared to be a hamstring injury against Newcastle United. Arteta said after the game: “He felt something, I think it was his hamstring, and he wasn’t comfortable to continue, so we have to have an MRI scan tomorrow to see the extent of the injury.”
Possible return date: TBC
Gabriel Jesus
Jesus tore his ACL and will be out until next season, and he likely won’t be back on the grass until the new season starts, with a likely return in late autumn of this year.
Possible return date: November
Bukayo Saka
Saka has a hamstring injury, with Arteta having said in his latest update on the winger: “No, that's not going to change [three months]. It's within the process. He's doing really well; he's feeling better day by day, but we have to respect the healing process... he has a lot of stages to go through in his rehab.”
Possible return date: April 1
Ben White
White had a knee operation in the autumn and and he should be on course to return in a week or so, or at least in contention. Arteta has said: “He hasn't trained with the team yet, but I think he's very close to doing that. He still needs to tick a few boxes in the next two or three days. If that's going well and smoothly, I think he'll be with us pretty soon.”
Possible return date: February 15
Takehiro Tomiyasu
It’s a similar case for Tomiyasu, who is due to return from a long-term knee injury. Arteta has said: “Tomi has done some stuff on the pitch, but we have to see. It has been a long-term injury, and we have to see how quick he progresses and how he reacts.”
Possible return date: February 15
