Arsenal defender set for exit before Kieran Tierney as Mikel Arteta handed transfer windfall boost

Arsenal could be set to land a transfer windfall as they look to add a new forward.

Arsenal could be set for an important transfer windfall as they look to add an attacker to their ranks before the end of the winter transfer window. The window slams shut next Monday, and the Gunners don’t appear to be any closer to landing a new striker despite having a clear need for one.

The loss of Gabriel Jesus to injury for the season has hurt Arsenal’s title chances, while Bukayo Saka has been ruled out until April, further weakening their front line.

The Gunners are looking for an addition, but they are struggling to find one who is available and at the right price. Mikel Arteta has said: “My opinion is clear that we lost two very very important players, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus. So we lack goals, we lack people, we lack options in the frontline - it’s clear.”

In the meantime, a number of players are being linked with exits, and there could be two at the back. Kieran Tierney is all set to agree a pre-contract with Celtic ahead of his contract expiring at the end of this season, but there could also be a departure before then.

According to The Athletic, Oleksandr Zinchenko has moved ahead of Tierney in the queue to leave the club, with Arsenal viewing the defender as a possible avenue to a transfer windfall as they look to strengthen. It’s claimed Borussia Dortmund are the most interested club in the Ukrainian, but a deal doesn’t seem to be particularly close.

Zinchenko is under contract until 2026 as things stand, he is currently valued at around £25million, which is around £4million less than what Arsenal paid for the 28-year-old in 2022 when he arrived from Manchester City. Zinchenko has made just 13 appearances across all competitions this season, including only eight in the Premier League.
