Arsenal face decision after 'two offers' arrive for player who played every Premier League game last season

Arsenal have seen their transfer window step up in recent weeks

What began as a worrying summer for Arsenal has quickly begun to blossom in recent weeks into the formation of a squad Gunners fans can dare to be excited about.

The confirmation of Viktor Gyokeres as an Arsenal player put to bed the lingering doubts that Mikel Arteta would strengthen in every position except for the one they need the most. Arsenal now have a top striker within their ranks, but not only that - a new holding midfielder has been signed in Martin Zubimendi, in addition to strength in depth across the wing, midfield, centre-back and goalkeeping positions.

In every major squad rebuild there are players who decide it is time to part ways and move on. Several players were released by the club on expiry of their contracts, including Kieran Tierney, Jorginho and Takehiro Tomiyasu. One important player could yet be sold this transfer window after recent reports linked him with a departure.

Leandro Trossard may depart after ‘offers received’

Leandro Trossard has been a player to rely on for the Gunners under Arteta, but the Belgian may be set to depart the Emirates this summer. Reports by Metro state that two ‘concrete offers’ have been received from ‘unnamed Premier League clubs’, citing Florian Plettenberg, who also reports that Borussia Dortmund are ‘monitoring’ Trossard.

Trossard joined the Gunners from Brighton & Hove Albion for £27million in January 2023 and has made 124 appearances for the club, scoring 28 goals. The 30-year-old has become a man to rely on and featured in all 38 Premier League games last season for the first time in his career, starting 28 of those, in addition to making 14 Champions League appearances. Despite this, Trossard reportedly rejected a new contract in recent days.

Should Arsenal hone in on further attacking targets such as Eberechi Eze, an exit for Trossard makes sense. Metro’s report states that Arsenal are ‘increasingly likely’ to sanction an exit and may look to start a bidding war between interested parties for the 44-cap Belgium international.

Arteta speaks on ‘competitive moaner’ Trossard

Speaking last season, Arteta spoke on Trossard’s attitude and the impact he has on the team. Arteta said: “Yeah, Leo is naturally a bit of a moaner but I like that because he’s very competitive and you have training sessions, he’s always busy with the referee’s decision, because he wants to win. That’s what I love.

“He always wants to be the best and when he’s not there, he’s not happy. But that’s what pushes him. That’s where he comes in on the pitch, he can make an impact because he’s got that drive, that anger which says: ‘I’m going to show you.’ I love that about him.

“He’s a really good character. They all want to play. Always want to play. Leo has shown a lot more consistency in the last 12 months, he’s deserved that. He’s had a lot of competition in his position. That’s it. Raise the level. If he plays at that level then he will play like anyone else. He has the capacity to do something special in the final third.

“He’s played and with us he’s played as a left winger, as an attacking midfielder, he’s played as a nine and he’s a player that I value a lot, we value a lot because he’s very versatile and very competitive and he’s a massive goal threat for the team. Really happy with him.”
