Arsenal deadline day transfer target 'rejects' offers and makes decision on future

Arsenal won’t be signing this particular winger this summer after he made a decision to stay with his current club on deadline day.

Arsenal will not be landing one of their reported winger targets before the end of the summer transfer window, according to a fresh report. The Gunners are said to be pushing to sign an attacker before Friday night’s 11pm deadline, with either a winger or a striker on the wishlist.

Mikel Arteta has already been handed Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino as new signings this summer, although Merino will now miss a few weeks due to a shoulder injury he picked up in training. The Gunners may need more help at the top end of the pitch in any case, with more competition needed for Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, who have been heavily relied upon over the last couple of years.

Neither are likely to lose their starting spots, but Martinelli in particular could do with a push as he looks to get back to his best form. Meanwhile, Reiss Nelson could yet depart, and any paid-for winger signing would likely depend on his exit.

One target who has been regularly linked with Arsenal towards the back-end of this window is Bayern Munich wideman Kinglsey Coman, The Daily Mail reported as recently as Thursday that the Gunners were considering a late push for the speedy winger. Though, it was reported elsewhere that Arsenal were concerned about Coman’s injury history given he missed 22 games through injury last term.

But that won’t matter with a fresh report from transfer ‘insider’ Fabrizio Romano claiming Coman has now decided to stay and fight for his place with Bayern. He tweeted: “Understand Kingsley Coman has rejected all proposals/approaches from Europe and Al Hilal. He’s set to stay at Bayern.”

With Coman off the table, Arsenal are being linked with a move for Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling, who has been told to find a new club ahead of the deadline. Reports suggest a loan deal is the most likely scenario, although there is also serious interest from Manchester United.
