Next Arsenal contract signing only a "matter of time" after Myles Lewis-Skelly "agrees" new deal

Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly has agreed a new long-term contract at the Emirates.

Arsenal had been working hard to quieten down interest from Real Madrid in left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly and sign him to a long-term contract. It has now been reported that the 18-year-old has agreed a new deal at the Emirates.

According to Journalist Charles Watts, Lewis-Skelly has agreed a new long-term contract, and it is set to be announced in the coming days. The England international’s deal with the Gunners was set to expire next summer. It had been reported that Real Madrid were lining up a move for him.

But now that Lewis-Skelly’s contract situation has been settled, Arsenal now need to turn their attention to a couple more players who need to agree new deals at the club, one of which is only a “matter of time”.

Ethan Nwaneri close to a new Arsenal contract

Lewis-Skelly broke out this past season, becoming a first team regular for Mikel Arteta. He made 42 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing three assists, also earning his first England call-up under Thomas Tuchel.

However, he wasn’t the only young Gunner to break out this season, as winger Ethan Nwaneri also impressed when given the chance. The 18-year-old is yet to sign a new contract with the club, but following Lewis-Skelly’s deal, it is expected to happen soon.

According to Fabrizio Romano on X, Nwaneri is the next Arsenal player who will sign a new deal with the club. He said: “Next talent to sign new deal at Arsenal after Myles Lewis-Skelly: Ethan Nwaneri. Matter of time.”

Nwaneri only has two years left on his current deal, and after impressing in the Premier League this season, Arsenal will want to tie him down to avoid approaches from rivals. He made 37 appearances for Arteta’s side last season, scoring nine goals and providing two assists. Many believe that the 18-year-old also deserved a call-up to Tuchel’s England squad.

If Romano’s report is correct, Arsenal will hopefully have both Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly tied down long-term by the end of the transfer window this summer, so that both can focus on performing for the Gunners.

Thomas Partey contract still uncertain

The future of midfielder Thomas Partey is very uncertain, as the Ghana international’s contract is set to expire at the end of June. Arsenal are hopeful that they can sign him on a short-term deal to keep him at the club for at least one more year.

However, the 32-year-old has reportedly been in talks with Barcelona too over a contract, and it has now been reported that Partey has been ‘offered’ to Turkish side Fenerbahce, managed by Jose Mourinho.

It would be a huge blow for the Gunners to lose Partey for free, considering that he was such an important part of Arteta’s midfield last season. He made 52 appearances, scoring four goals and providing three assists in all competitions. Due to his versatility, he also played at right-back when the Gunners had injury problems in defence.
