Arsenal confirm exit after Edu and Mikel Arteta 'make decision' on player

Arsenal have waved goodbye to one player on transfer deadline day.

Arsenal have confirmed a permanent exit on deadline day. The Gunners have struggled to add to their squad this winter, largely due to Financial Fair Play having spent more than £200million during the summer transfer window.

Mikel Arteta already has a strong squad to call upon, but many fans wanted to see the club sign a striker amid some struggles in front of goal this season. But a striker signing will have to wait until the summer, it seems, with a quiet deadline day likely for the Gunners.

But there could be some exits, and there is one player who will have a quick change of scenary. Goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson has spent the season so far on loan with Championship club Cardiff City, but he has now left the Bluebirds due to them moving for Nottingham Forest keeper Ethan Horvath.

Runarsson did not convince during his time in South Wales, and he has struggled to convince during his time with the Gunners as a whole. The Icelandic keeper joined in 2020 but only made one league appearance since, spending time at three separate loan spells during that time.

What is clear is that Runarsson does not have an Arsenal future, and that was decided on deadline day. According to bold.dk, Runarsson returns from Cardiff before quickly linking up with Danish giants Copenhagen. It's thought the Icelandic keeper will become the new number two with Copenhagen. Runarsson and Arsenal have agreed to sever ties, with the player only under contract until 2024, allowing him to make the move to Denmark.
