Arsenal supporters have uncovered the awkward meaning behind a prominent tattoo sported by new signing David Raya.

The goalkeeper joined the Gunners from Brentford this week on a £3 million loan deal with the option to make the move permanent for £27 million. The Spaniard has been an ever-present member of the Brentford starting XI during their promotion from the Championship and first two seasons in the Premier League.

It is hoped that Raya will give Arsenal number one Aaron Ramsdale healthy competition as Mikel Arteta's side look to go one better on their second-place finish in the top flight last season.

Gunners supporters looking into their new signing's history and life have stumbled on the 27-year-old's large tattoo on the back of his neck. The ink is visible when the star is wearing his kit and commemorates the date of August 13, 2021.

A wholesome nod to a significant moment in his career, that is the date that Raya made his first ever Premier League appearance. It was a night-to-remember to as Brentford won their first-ever Premier League match 2-0.

Painfully, for the goalkeeper's new fans, that fixture was famously against Arsenal in the curtain-raising fixture of the 2021/22 campaign. Goals from Sergi Canos and Christian Norgaard left an underwhelming Arsenal side stunned under the lights at the Community Stadium.

Arsenal did fire 22 shots Raya's way in the match but were wasteful with just four hitting the target and causing the Brentford keeper to worry.

Reacting to the tattoo online, football fans from other clubs couldn't help but point out the hilarity. One joked that 'Arsenal can't catch a break', while another labelled it 'banter at its finest'. One fan did see a silver lining and said that Mikel Arteta might use the tattoo as motivation in one of his famously unusual team talks. The user wrote: "Teta bringing him out during every team talk "look at his neck guys, do you want more tattoos like these, now fogging go out there and win this, guys."
