Hide AdGarcia on rejecting move
A reported Arsenal target from the summer has explained why he did not make the move to North London, or anywhere else. Espanyol’s up and coming keeper Joan Garcia was touted as Aaron Ramsdale’s replacement as Arsenal’s number two, but the Gunners couldn’t get the deal done, and they were instead forced to sign Neto on loan from Bournemouth.
Garcia has explained to Marca: “I tried to isolate myself from everything that was being said. I had been given the opportunity to do something I had been fighting for for a long time, which was to be Espanyol’s starting goalkeeper. I couldn’t waste this opportunity.”
New Trossard deal
Arsenal are said to have begun contract talks with Leandro Trossard despite the Belgian having struggled so far this season. In Trossard’s defence, he has largely played out of position, covering for Martin Odegaard in the middle, and he was a key contributor last season.
According to the Daily Mail, Trossard will be rewarded for his efforts with a new contract that will see his weekly wage rise from £90,000 to six figures. He already has a contract until 2026, but it’s likely a year or two will be added to that. The Belgian is 29 years of age, so there is an element of risk involved if more years are added to the deal.
