Arsenal and Man Utd 'interested' in sensational transfer for Real Madrid superstar

Arsenal and Manchester United are both 'interested' in a transfer for a Real Madrid all-star.

Arsenal and Manchester United are both reportedly keen on completing a transfer move that would shock the footballing world - the two Premier League giants are 'interested' in a move for Real Madrid superstar Rodrygo in the summer window.

This is according to a report from Spanish sports outlet Defensa Central, who mention that the Gunners and the Red Devils are both 'keeping a close eye' on Rodrygo's situation and are waiting to see if he becomes available for a transfer.

The 23-year-old signed a new contract with Los Blancos back in November which will keep him at the Bernabéu Stadium until the summer of 2028. Additionally, it also contains an eye-watering release clause of 1 billion Euros - however, any team wishing to sign him can probably secure a deal for much less than this.

Where would Rodrygo fit into Arsenal's starting XI?

While Arsenal are in need of a striker, having plenty of world-class options out wide, Rodrygo has previously stated that he does not like playing 'as a nine' - instead, the Brazilian feels his abilities are best utilised when he is deployed as a winger.

In an interview with Marca back in October, Rodrygo said: "I have always made it clear that I have the ability to play on the wings, I simply don't like playing as a nine, although in my club I have to do it. With Brazil I have more freedom to move."

As such, Arsenal will most likely have to play him as a winger - which presents an issue. Out of Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Reiss Nelson and Leandro Trossard, whose position in the squad would take a hit to accommodate Rodrygo? Unless one of these four players is sold in the summer, it would give Arteta an almighty selection headache every week - one he could probably do without.
