Arsenal go 'all in' on one target as Real Madrid prepare fresh Martin Zubimendi hijack bid

Arsenal are still pushing to land their first signing of the summer, although they do look like snapping up a goalkeeper in the near future. The Gunners need attacking reinforcements, though, and work continues as they look to add a striker and a winger.
Mikel Arteta is also looking for a midfielder, while he is also in need of depth across much of the squad. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal look as though they are going all in on RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, with Fabrizio Romano suggesting that the Gunners are staying away from their alternative target Viktor Gyokeres, appearing to concentrate their efforts on the Slovenian frontman.
“It’s important to say that at the moment, the other situation on the Arsenal side, Viktor Gyokeres, the other name in the list of Arsenal, at the moment, the situation is not developing. Arsenal are focused on Benjamin Sesko, discussing and advancing for Benjamin Sesko… for Viktor Gyokeres, I’m not aware of an official bid from Arsenal or any sort of agreement.”
Zubimendi concern
Arsenal could face serious late competition in their reported bid to sign midfielder Martin Zubimendi. There have been regular reports of the Gunners being close to signing the midfielder, and there has even been talk of a medical.
None of those have been true, with the Gunners yet to activate the player’s release clause, and even if they do, they must convince Zubimendi himself that they are his best option. The tough part of that is that Zubimendi is known to love the Basque country, and while he will inevitably leave the region, he might just like the idea of staying in Spain for that reason.

Hide AdReal Madrid are Arsenal’s biggest concern, and AS say the Spanish giants are now planning a ‘final offensive’ in a bid to win the race. The good news for Arsenal is that the report claims Los Blancos want to pay less than the £51million release clause, while they also want to pay the midfielder less than what the Gunners are said to be offering.
Lineker on Delap
Gary Lineker is surprised that Arsenal did not move to beat Chelsea to the £30million signing of Liam Delap. “Delap to Chelsea, interesting one,” Lineker said on The Rest Is Football podcast. “I thought maybe Arsenal would go for him. Perhaps they did, I don’t know, but Chelsea have got their man.
“We’d said, didn’t we, many times that Chelsea needed backup for [Nicolas] Jackson up top or an alternative. I think he’s a young, exciting centre forward. I saw someone, I can’t remember who it was, said they saw a bit of a young Alan Shearer in him. I think that’s the only thing that Chelsea were missing. I mean, Jackson’s got something in him, but his finishing is not as good as it could be. And if Delap does realise his full potential, then that might just be the missing ingredient.”
