Supporters were celebrating late into the night after the Lionesses won England’s first major trophy since the 1966 men’s world cup.

Arsenal’s Leah Williamson sent Wembley wild as she lifted the Euro 2022 trophy, which was also the first title for the England women’s team.

The Lionesses edged out Germany in a tight game at the home of football, which held a record crowd for any England men’s or women’s home Euros match.

Super-sub Ella Toone scored a delicious dink in the second half, after player of the match Keira Walsh had played her through.

Germany hit back shortly afterwards when Lina Magull rifled a first-time shot past Mary Earps.

Nerves frayed for England fans as the game entered extra time, with the next goal likely to be decisive.

And after the ball was knocked down from a corner, north-west London local Chloe Kelly poked the ball into the net before whipping off her shirt to celebrate.

The Lionesses managed to keep Germany out for the next 15 minutes to win the country’s first major football trophy for 56 years.

England fans jumped into the fountain in Trafalgar Square to celebrate, while Wembley stadium belted out Baddiel & Skinner’s famous Three Lions song.
