A double injury blow threatens to scupper the recent upturn in form for Crystal Palace with both Adam Wharton and Eberechi Eze missing from the Saturday teatime trip to Wolves.

The loss of Eze is particularly devastating according to former Eagles striker Clinton Morrison.

Wharton has been ruled out for a month after undergoing groin surgery, while Eze’s hamstring injury sustained in the EFL Cup win over Aston Villa will rule him out for around two weeks.

“I hope Eze isn't out for too long because he has that X Factor,” said Morrison. “Palace are so reliant on Eze, and sometimes he can attract two or three players so he can find it difficult to find space.

“But in the last two or three games it looks like he is getting back to his best, which is why I hope this injury doesn't keep him out for too long because he is just getting back into the groove and that would be disappointing. He is one of the best in terms of ability I have seen.”

Palace will take on a Wolves side reeling from losing key players themselves with Hwang Hee-chan, Sasa Kalajdzic, Enso Gonzalez, Yerson Mosquera, Boubacar Traore and Bastien Meupiyou on the sidelines.

Injuries and the fact that Wolves boss Gary O'Neil has lost all four top-flight matches as a manager against Palace, makes the Eze loss even more frustrating for Morrison.

“In that game [last week] against Tottenham, apart from the assist for Mateta, he was sitting defenders down and he just looked like he was enjoying his football again. When he has a smile on his face, Eze is a top player. I have always said it and can never have criticism of him because he has the world at his feet,” added Morrison.

“He doesn't look like he’s trying when he’s on the football pitch, it looks like he’s in the playground playing with his friends. Eventually big teams will come and get him, I don't think it will be in January but in the summer, he probably will move on because he deserves his opportunity to go to a top four team because he is an outstanding player.”
