Are Zendaya and Tom Holland engaged? The couple’s relationship timeline after meeting on the set of Spider-man: Homecoming

A rumour that Zendaya and Tom Holland are reportedly engaged has sent the internet wild.

The American actress, 26, and the English actor, 26, met on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016, whilst playing the roles of Michelle and Spider-Man respectively.

The Hollywood stars both reprised their roles for Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019 and Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.

Now, it seems that “the #1 pop community in the world”, Pop Hive, has started a rumour that the pair have got engaged.

Pop Hive, who have over 166,000 followers, tweeted a picture of the Hollywood couple, with the caption: "Tom Holland and Zendaya are reportedly engaged!".

US Weekly spoke to a source, who added: “They are both in settling down mode and are absolutely planning a real future together.”

Zendaya is yet to make an announcement on her social media, whilst Tom is currently taking a break from Twitter and hasn’t uploaded anything to Instagram for nearly a month.

So, while we wait to see if the rumours are true, let’s take a look at Zendaya and Tom Holland’s relationship timeline:

2016

Zendaya and Tom met for the first time when they were cast for Spider-Man: Homecoming sometime in 2016 - about a year before the movie was released.

Shortly after, the pair did a cover shoot for The Hollywood Reporter. Tom, 26, from Kingston upon Thames, took to Instagram to share the photo and called the American actress his “mate”.

He wrote: “Over the moon with my first cover. So grateful that I got to share it with the one and only @zendaya. Thanks mate for helping me out 👊🏻."

In November, to promote the release of their upcoming Spider-Man film, Zendaya and Tom appeared on Lip Sync Battle - and the iconic episode went viral.

The Disney Channel star performed Tyrone by Erykah Badu and 24K Magic by Bruno Mars. Afterwards, Tom performed Ride Wit Me by Nelly and finished with a Singin’ in the Rain and Umbrella mashup.

2017

In July, Spider-Man: Homecoming was released in the UK and USA, after already being shown in Hollywood.

In the film, Tom’s character Peter Parker (Spider-Man) and Zendaya’s character Michelle become love interests.

Shortly after it’s release, rumours of a real-life romance began to spread. However, The Greatest Showman actress denied the speculation.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in August, Zendaya said: "It happens all the time, and of course we expected it. I mean, it comes with the territory. It comes with the job, so it’s all good."

The 26-year-old also described Tom as one of her best friends in an interview with Variety that same month.

However, the Brit later attended a dinner in New York City with Zendaya and her parents, Claire Stoermer and Kazembe Ajamu Coleman.

Towards the end of the year, the pair began filming sequel Spider-Man: Far From Home, and kept a low profile as they filmed throughout Europe.

2019

Spider-Man: Far From Home was released in the USA in July.

The film saw Michelle and Peter finally get together, meaning Zendaya and Tom shared their first on-screen kiss - which would have been filmed sometime in 2018.

However, the Cherry actor was in a relationship with his childhood friend Olivia Bolton.

2020

In February, Zendaya was spotted kissing Australian actor Jacob Elordi.

In April, Tom confirmed that he had split up with Olivia.

In July, the Uncharted actor sparked relationship rumours after posting a picture of Nadia Parkes to Instagram. It was later reported that the former couple moved in together during the pandemic.

2021

In July, fans finally got the confirmation they wanted after Zendaya and Tom were pictured kissing in his car whilst parked in Los Angeles.

In August, the pair attended a wedding together in Simi Valley, California. It was a friend of Zendaya’s named Josh Florez.

In September, the Eurphoria actress celebrated her 25th birthday in California. Tom, who was eight hours ahead in London, posted a picture of the pair on Instagram before she woke up.

The 26-year-old wrote: “My MJ, have the happiest of birthdays. Gimme a call when your up xxx”.

In October, Tom showed off his girlfriend on Instagram. Zendaya was at a London movie premiere for her new film, Dune.

He posted a black and white photo of the American actress at the red carpet event, captioned: “Dune 😍”.

Less than a month later, he showed his affection for the brunette beauty again, after she won the Fashion Icon award at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CDFA) Fashion Awards.

Tom wrote: “Naaa stop it 😍. An incredible achievement for the most incredible person. Congrats @zendaya and @luxurylaw you guys deserve every bit of this.”

Following this, in an interview with Total Film he said he was “very happy and in love”, but he didn’t mention Zendaya by name.

Spider-Man: No Way Home was released in December. At a London photocall for the film, the pair were pictured holding hands and smiling at each other.

That same month, Zendaya shared two pictures of Tom in a Spider-Man suit on Instagram, one recent and one from his childhood.

She captioned the photo: “My Spider-Man, I’m so proud of you, some things never change and good thing♥️”

2022

In January, Tom expressed his desire to be in a episode of HBO’s KC Undercover, which Zendaya was starring in.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Zendaya said: “He keeps talking about it. Maybe we can get him in the background of a shot eventually”.

Later that month, the American actress made a trip to London to visit her boyfriend and to spend some time with his family. The happy couple attended the West End play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child with Tom’s mum Nikki and brothers Sam and Harry.

In February, Zendaya and Tom were side by side at the movie screening for Tom’s latest movie Uncharted.

They were also spotted at a New York Rangers hockey game. She wore a jersey with ‘Holland’ written on the back, whilst he wore a jersey with ‘Zendaya’ written on the back.

In June, the Disney Channel star said that Tom makes her “the happiest” in a sweet Instagram post for his 26th birthday.

The Euphoria actress wrote: “Happiest of birthdays to the one who makes me the happiest <3”

Zendaya attended the Emmys with her mum whilst Tom was in New York City. She won an award for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Drama Series, for her role as Rue Bennett in Euphoria.

She later told E! News that the first person she texted was her “boyfriend”.

In October, the pair took a trip to Paris, and were spotted holding hands whilst taking a tour of the Louvre.
