During the show, Richard and Susanna Reid began discussing comedian Chris Rock, who recently spoke about being slapped by Will Smith on stage at the Oscars last March.

Richard revealed that Chris Rock is the “rudest” celebrity he has interviewed during his broadcasting career.

He recalled interviewing Chris alongside Ben Stiller when they were promoting the 2005 animated film Madagascar.

Richard said: "Well, I am sorry, but I've got limited sympathy for Chris Rock. I am not defending what happened to him. It was wrong, clearly.

"But in 50 years in this game, he is the rudest man I have ever had to interview. I interviewed him along with Ben Stiller, they did the voices for Madagascar, the animated movie, and I have to say it stands out in my memory.

"He was just consistently, unbelievably rude."

Referring to the famous slap, Richard said: “I didn’t smack him though, I kept my hands to myself.”

It came after Richard recounted his freak accident involving a car door hitting him in the face while "fiddling around with something at the bottom of the car".

Richard outlined how he had previously been speaking with a lisp after his incident.

“You appear to have made a full recovery,” Susanna remarked. "I was either a freak having an accident, or I had a freak accident," Richard quipped.

The accident led to the 66-year-old needing stitches in his tongue.

“It just hit me on the chin, and I really bit my tongue to the extent that I needed an op. I had to have some stitches in it,” he said.

The presenter missed two weeks of GMB, with one publication reporting that he had been sacked.
