Woman in her 60s dead and another woman injured in ‘shocking’ Dagenham double stabbing

A woman has died, and another woman has been seriously injured, after a double stabbing in a residential street in Dagenham, east London.

The Metropolitan Police (Met) has launched a murder investigation after the stabbing shortly after 9.30pm on Auriel Avenue on Sunday October 30.

The force says a woman, believed to be aged in her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene whilst a second woman, believed to be aged in her 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment

Her condition is not thought to be life threatening.

The Met has arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of murder and GBH who remains in custody with the force saying it is believed all parties involved were “known to each other”.

A cordon remains in place down the residential street, off Western Avenue, as police enquires continue.

Detective Superintendent Richard Vandenbergh of the East Area Command unit, said: “This is a truly shocking incident that has left one woman dead and a second with serious injuries and will understandably cause concern within the local community.

“A man has been arrested and remains in custody and it appears this was an isolated incident confined to a single address.

“Residents will have woken up this morning to find a large police presence in the area; I want to reassure people that this is standard practice when dealing with such a serious incident so specialist officers can gather evidence as quickly and securely as is possible.”

Officers and the London Ambulance Service (LAS) were called to the address at approximately 21.35pm on Sunday and found two women suffering stab injuries.

The capital has seen a series of killings and stabbings this weekend which has left five people dead.

Two men died after gunshots were heard in Brixton, just before 8pm on Sunday on Railton Road.

The Met this morning named the victim of a fatal knife attack close to the Cubana restaurant in in Lower Marsh Street, Waterloo, on Saturday morning as Adrian Keise, 32, from Lambeth.

A 21-year-old man was stabbed to death close to a bar on Harrow Road, Wembley, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

In Romford, east London, a 23-year-old man was stabbed on Sunday morning where his condition is being assessed and a man, 42, was shot in the leg in Willesden with his injuries not thought to be life-threatening.
