Thousands of excited fans arrived at the All England Club for the first day of the Wimbledon tennis championships.

Over the next two weeks stars of the tennis world including Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Marketa Vondrousova and Iga Swiatek will battle it out on the court in a bid to win the ATP and WTA Grand Slam titles

Many queued overnight to secure last minute tickets. There are a limited number available daily for Centre Court, No 1 Court and No 2 Court, we well as thousands of grounds passes.

Our reporter Jack Abela headed to southwest London on Monday morning to meet with tennis fans.

Mark and his daughter Iona were both very excited to enjoy the tournament together.

“It's really exciting. I remember the first time I came and queuing up and that sense of seeing something that you’ve seen on the tv and seeing it for real,” Mark told LondonWorld.

“Iona’s just done her GCSEs so it's an ideal time to come and go in for the first time.”

When asked who he was excited about seeing he said:“I like Sinner because I think there’s a change in the guard in the men’s game. I really hope Andy Murray gets to do himself justice ideally with his brother.”

“I’m feeling really excited because obviously I’ve watched it for ages and Dad’s told me about coming,” added Iona.

Satu and Savi who travelled from Finland were very excited to be at Wimbledon for the first time.

“We’re excited to see Sinner of course and today of course we have the Finnish player OttoVirtanen,” said Satu.

The Wimbledon Championships will run from Monday July 1 to Sunday July 14.
