London weather warning: When will Storm Goretti hit the capital this week?
When Storm Goretti’s icy blast is expected to hit London this week.
London is set for a soggy and slippery few days as Storm Goretti, the first named storm of the year, heads towards the capital.
Arriving from Thursday (January 7), the storm is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to London, with colder air close behind.
While widespread snowfall isn’t forecast for the city, forecasters say snow could settle in other parts of the country, particularly on higher ground.
Ahead of the storm, the Met Office has issued a yellow ice warning covering London, warning that icy patches could make pavements and untreated roads slippery.
The Met Office has not yet issued any further weather warnings for Thursday and Friday when the storm is forecast to hit the city.
Londoners can expect heavy rain through Thursday and Friday as Storm Goretti moves in, with freezing temperatures following overnight. As a result, icy conditions are likely across the capital.
While the weekend could bring some brighter spells, wintry weather isn’t far away. Sleet is forecast to fall overnight into Sunday, bringing a cold end to the week.
