As we edge closer to December, the temperature in the UK is set to plummet.

The UK is set to be hit by what some people have described as a so-called “Arctic blast”, which will cause temperatures to drop to below freezing.

The weather experts confirmed that should snow fall in the next few weeks it will likely happen in north Scotland.

Tyler Ros, from AccuWeather, said a recent cold blast due to arrive in Eastern Europe this week, will descend upon the UK soon after.

“We do have to watch a cold snap that appears to move into eastern Europe early next week,” said Tyler Ros.

“If this bleeds westward towards the UK (with the core of the cold remaining in eastern Europe), then the temperatures will be near to slightly below normal during this stretch,” he added.

It’s doubtful whether London will see snow before Christmas but one thing is certain and that is how cold it will feel - the feels-like temperature in the capital will drop to -2°C and -3°C over the next few days.

London & South East England weather forecast:

Monday - November 22.

A sunny start to the week, continuous sun all day until around 16:03, which is when the sun will set. Highs of and lows of 4C, so despite the sun, a cold day.

Tuesday - November 23.

Light clouds all day. Brief sunny spells but very brief. Little chance of rain throughout the day, despite the clouds, but take a coat/umbrella wherever you go, just in case. Temperature remains around the same as Monday with a high of 8C and a low of 4C.

Wednesday - November 24.

Bad news if you begin your day early, as London is to be hit with a low mist and thick fog, to last from around 6am to 9am. When that clears, dark clouds will appear in the sky until sunset. Although rain is not forecast for Wednesday, the dark clouds suggest a few brief spells, but nothing continuous.

Thursday - November 25.

Thursday we see the temperature plummet. The high remains fairly consistent at around 7C but the low drops to 1C. Despite the colder weather, Thursday will see sunny spells with light clouds all day. Very low chance of rain.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday - November 26, 27, 28.

The week will end on a slightly poor note. Despite sunny spells to start off your day, rain is forecast for around mid-day. 80% chance according to the Met Office, with around 40% chance at around 3pm. The rain will clear up at 6pm, with clouds remaining in place for the rest of the day. High of 7C, low of 2C.

Scattered showers over the weekend. Saturday will set dark clouds and it will rain at various periods throughout the day. A lower chance of rain Sunday as a gentle breeze comes from the North as they may have snow by the weekend. Lighter clouds and slightly higher lower temperature at 3C.

UK long range weather forecast - Monday December 6 to Monday December 20

A generally northwesterly airflow looks set to continue for much of this period, with the most changeable conditions likely to be in the north of the UK.

Showers or longer spells of rain and possibly strong winds are likely across the north, become increasingly likely further north, these interspersed with periods of more settled weather.

In the south high pressure is likely to remain close by, giving a good deal of settled and dry weather.

Temperatures will be varied overall with longer mild spells being punctuated by shorter colder spells, with some wintry weather also possible with a risk of snow and ice in the north.

During any clear, calm spells, overnight frost and fog are likely.
