London weather: Met Office issues yellow rain warning for South London

The Met Office has issued a yellow rain warning for the south of London.

South London has been placed under a yellow weather warning as heavy rain is set to come down on Tuesday (January 27).

The Met Office has warned that heavy downpours will hit south of the river from midnight until midday tomorrow which could lead to transport disruption and possible flooding.

Due to spells of heavy rain across Monday night into Tuesday morning, up to 25 mm of rain is expected to build up widely across affected areas.

The warning covers a large part of south London including both Croydon and Orpington as well as surrounding areas.

Other southern parts of the country are also featured in the warning including coastal areas including Brighton and Portsmouth.

However, despite the heavy start to Tuesday in London, forecasts show the rain is expected to clear by early afternoon, with conditions turning dry for the rest of the day and into the evening.

The Met Office’s Tuesday forecast explains: “Outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, moving eastwards. Becoming dry from the west during the afternoon, but further evening showers following.”
