London weather: Met Office forecasts capital to have mini heatwave this week

Summer is coming to London this week as the capital is set to experience a mini heatwave. City locals can expect warm weather over the next few days with temperatures settling in the low 20s into the weekend.

Following the rather wet bank holiday weekend in the capital, the rest of the week is forecast to have more dry weather as the sun shines.

The Met Office’s seven day weather forecast for London shows temperatures will stay around 20C throughout the week and peak over the weekend. 

Saturday is expected to be the hottest, with a high of 23C with Sunday set to continue the warm weather.

Despite the upcoming rise in temperatures in London, the period will be a mini heatwave rather than an official hot spell.

The Met Office defines a heatwave as an “extended period of hot weather relative to the expected conditions of the area at that time of year”.

Following a cloudy start, Wednesday is set to have sunny spells across the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to peak in the early evening.

The sun will shine down on the capital in the morning before taking cover behind the clouds in the afternoon. Londoners can expect the warmest temperatures in the late afternoon.

Friday, May 10

Clouds will line the capital’s skies this Friday keeping the warm weather in the city. Temperatures will peak at 22C in the late afternoon before easing for the evening.

Saturday, May 11

The sun is expected to escape the clouds over as the weekend kicks off. It will shine down on Londoners as the capital heats up to 23C.

Sunday, May 12

Sunday will echo the sunny weekend weather as the capital once again peaks at 23C.
