But do the people of London have a favourite bridge? LondonWorld headed down to the Thames to see whether locals have a soft spot for one crossing or another. There was one clear winner.

Ella, a civil servant, said: "The obvious one is Tower Bridge. That's definitely the one - if I were a tourist I would love that one the most.

"Do I have a favourite bridge? I like Vauxhall Bridge because of the big buildings around it. I think they're quite pretty when you're cycling at night over the bridge."

Richard said: "I think my favourite bridge in London would have to be Tower Bridge, just because it's so iconic. I think my favourite bridge worldwide would be the Golden Gate Bridge. I had a lovely holiday in San Francisco and drove over that."

Hannah, a dancer and choreographer, said: "Tower Bridge is beautiful. Who doesn't love Tower Bridge? Sometimes the Millennium Bridge is really nice to walk across, when it's quiet and no one is there, late at night.

Joshua said: "My favourite bridge, I'd say, is Tower Bridge because I used to walk down there with my parents and my brothers. It's quite nostalgic for me, and sentimental."

Parliamentary assistant Rishard said: "I would have to go with Westminster Bridge. When I first moved to London I was living just across the river and I would walk across every morning to get to work. It reminds me of a really happy period."
