Victoria Park’s major fireworks display will not be going ahead this year, making it the fourth time in a row the event has been cancelled.

The themed display had in previous years attracted crowds of up to 80,000 people to the east London park.

In 2019, the show commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing, while in 2018, the event was inspired by Mary Shelley’s famous Frankenstein novel.

Victoria Park has however been without a fireworks display since its 2019 outing, due to a combination of the pandemic and budget pressures.

In January 2021, Tower Hamlets Council’s cabinet heard that future displays were unlikely, due to the associated costs.

LondonWorld asked the council whether the event has been permanently axed, but had not received a response at the time of publication.

However, a spokesperson did confirm there are no plans for the Victoria Park fireworks display this year, “or any of our parks”.
