Person dies on tracks near Clapham Junction - delays and cancellations for Waterloo and Dalston Junction

Rail passengers using South Western Railway services between Dalston Junction, London Waterloo and Clapham Junction are facing major disruption.

A person died on the railway tracks near Clapham Junction on Wednesday morning.

British Transport Police, ambulance crews and the fire service attended at shortly after 7.30am. A person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Major disruption is reported on South Western Railway services between Dalston Junction Waterloo and Clapham. The operator says trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised, and that disruption is estimated to continue until 7pm.

In a statement, South Western Railway said at just after 9.20am: "Following emergency services dealing with an incident between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction, some lines have now reopened. At this time, we estimate that disruption to our services will end at 4pm."

In addition, National Rail is reporting issues with train information systems. It tweeted at just before 6pm on Tuesday: "There is a nationwide problem with real-time information on a number of systems. This means that some trains may be showing with incorrect delay information. This is being investigated and will be resolved as soon as possible."

A BTP spokesperson said: "BTP received a report shortly after 7.30am today to a casualty on the tracks near Clapham Junction station. 

"Paramedics and fire also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 7.31am today to reports of a person on the tracks at Clapham Junction Rail Station, SW11.

“We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and an advanced paramedic. Our first medics arrived on scene in approximately four minutes.

“Very sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
